How to Make the Paper Parrot Craft

Materials:

  • Colored Backing Card
  • Red, Yellow, Blue and Orange Paper
  • Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Black Marker Pen
  • Slim Stick

Let’s Make a Parrot!

Cut Out and Trace the Template Parrot Elements

Cut out all the parrot elements from the template and trace the body onto red paper, the beak onto orange and the feather’s onto red, yellow and blue paper (approx 12 feathers in total).

Cut out all the traced elements.

Fold the Parrot’s Tail Feathers in Half

Fold each of the tail feathers in half.

Assemble the Parrot’s Body

Glue the parrots beak, eye and legs onto the parrot’s body.

Glue the First Two Tail Feathers

Glue two blue tail feathers together to create a V shape and then add a third.

Layer the Paper Tail Feathers

Next, glue some red tail feathers to the underneath the blue feathers, sliding them out lengthwise to form a complete tail feather.

Glue the Parrot’s Feathers to the Body

Glue the tail feathers to the parrots body.

Glue the Wing Feathers

Next, add the first layer of wing feathers – gluing this set directly onto the parrot’s body.

Extend the Wing Feathers with Macaw Colors

Layer the wing feather’s with additional yellow and red feathers.

Continue layering to just below the parrot’s head.

Draw a Smile onto the Parrot’s Beak

Use a pencil to draw a faint smile onto the parrot’s beak and then trace the line with a black marker pen.

Draw a Pupil

Use a black marker pen to draw a pupil into the white area.

Glue the Parrot to Backing Card and Add a Twig

Glue a slim stick to a piece of colored backing card and then secure the parrot onto the stick.
