How to Make a Popsicle Stick Leprechaun Craft for St Patrick’s Day

Materials:

  • Popsicle Sticks x6
  • Green Acrylic Paint
  • Card Stock or Paper – Orange, Skin Colored and Black
  • Marker Pens – Black, Pink, Orange and Green
  • Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

Let’s Make a Leprechaun for St. Patricks Day!

Align the Popsicle Sticks

To make this leprechaun craft, Arty Crafty Kids will need four long popsicle sticks, one shorter popsicle stick that extends beyond both sides of the group of four (either cut to size or bought from a craft store) and two shorter pieces of popsicle cut to the width of four full-length aligned popsicle sticks.

Paint the Popsicle Sticks an Emerald Green

Paint the group of four popsicle sticks and the short, extended peice an emerald green.

Leave a Space!

Leave a 2-3cm unpainted “face” gap to create a distinction between the leprechaun’s hat and body.

Turn the Popsicle Sticks Over

Once the popsicle sticks are dry, turn them over.

Secure with Shorter Sticks

And apply a generous helping of glue to the shortest popsicle sticks and position across the group to secure the popsicle sticks.

NB: This step may also be completed before the popsicle sticks are painted!

Let’s Make the Leprechaun’s Hat!

Next, apply glue to the short “extended” popsicle stick and secure to the bottom of the leprechaun’s “hat” area.

Secure the Leprechaun’s Face

Trace the face element onto skin colored paper and the beard element onto orange paper.

Glue the face element to the unpainted area and then add the beard.

Glue the Beard and Draw the Leprechaun’s Face

With the face and beard in place, draw the remaining facial features with marker pens.

Arty Crafty Kids may also add small googly eyes.

Add a Ribbon to the Leprechaun’s Hat

Glue a strip black ribbon on to the hat and complete with a small square (the buckle) of gold or yellow paper.

Add a Second Piece of Ribbon

Add a second strip of black ribbon to create a belt. Again, cut a small square from a piece of gold or yellow paper and glue to the center of the ribbon strip.

Secure the Ribbon

Wrap and secure any excess ribbon to the back of the popsicle stick leprechaun.

Assemble the Remaining Elements

Assemble the leprechaun’s arms and legs.

Glue the Arms and Legs to the Leprechaun’s Body

Complete the leprechaun by gluing the arms and legs to the leprechaun’s body!
