This adorable owl card idea with a pop up heart is the perfect craft for celebrating Valentine’s Day.
And while we have designed this card with Valentine’s Day in mind, it’s also a lovely card making craft for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and birthday celebrations.
The craft tutorial will teach children how to make a very simple pop up heart – a lovely introduction into creating 3D effects with paper!
Children will also engage their imaginations and creativity to make the owl their own, with opportunities to decorate the owl and background.

How to Make an Owl Card with a Pop Up Heart:
Materials
- x3 Card Stock (Backing, the Heart and Printing)
- Colored Marker Pens
- A Favorite Coloring Medium
- Glue Stick
- Scissors
- Pencil

Let’s Make a Cute Card for Valentine’s Day!
Color in the Owl Card Insert
Use a favorite coloring medium to color in the owl card insert.
Cut Out the Owl Template Elements and Trace
Cut out the owl shapes from the template.
Select a piece of colored card stock or paper for each shape and trace.
Cut out the traced shaped.
Decorate the Owl’s Wings
Select a colored marker pen and decorate the wings and body of the owl.
Assemble the Owl
Glue the wings, eyes and beak to the body of the owl.
Glue the card insert to the Backing Card
Fold the backing card and insert in half.
Align the folds of the backing card and insert, and secure the insert with lots of glue.
Glue the Owl to the Center Fold
Fold the owl in half.
Align the folds of the owl and insert, and secure with glue.
Trace the Pop Up Heart
Trace the pop up heart on to colored card stock.
Create the Pop-Up Heart
Fold the heart in half and fold the arms of the heart inside.
Glue the Heart to the Owl
Apply lots of glue to the arms.
Align the heart with the center fold, ensuring the heart sticks out and glue an arm to each side of the card fold.
Gently Fold the Card to Enhance the the Pop Up Feature
Gently fold the card to enhance the pop up feature.
