Rainbow Paper Plate Bag

Arty Crafty Kids | Book Club | Craft Ideas for Kids | Rainbow Paper Plate Bag

Today’s cheerful Rainbow Paper Plate Bag craft has been inspired by ‘The Story of the Kindness Elves’, written by Anna Ranson (from the fabulous blog ‘The imagination Tree’) and Benjamin Byrne.

So let’s dive straight in and discuss  kindness.

I think we can all be agreed that there can never be enough kindness in this world.

It’s something that just happens, right?

Wrong.

Kindness can be taken for granted and sometimes, it’s something we have to work at.

And this is what I love about the concept and story of The Kindness Elves – it focuses the mind on small acts of kindness that can happen in every day life.

For example, noticing the lonely child in the playground and including them in a game.

Or, visiting an elderly neighbour who spends much of their time alone.

My six year-old daughter read the book before I had an opportunity to look at it and her reaction told me everything I needed to know about ‘The Story of the Kindness Elves’.

She gushed all the way through and passionately talked about the theme of kindness and the examples presented within the text.

Her enthusiasm for the book was infectious and as she set to work writing her own notes of kindness, the entire family soon became drawn into discussing kindness, using our own real-life examples.

This leads me onto our Rainbow Paper Plate Bag – also dubbed as “The Kindness Bag”, which is designed to store special kindness affirmation letters and ‘kind ideas’ to give to friends, to help spread the message of the kindness elves.

Toddler Rainbow Activity DIY Felt Story Board

Arty Crafty Kids | Play | Toddler Rainbow Activity | Toddlers will have fun creating pictures and building their own simple rainbows. A great little colour identification and sequencing activity for toddlers.

This simple  ” I can make a Rainbow” Toddler Rainbow Activity is great for colour identification, sequencing and fine motor skills.

It’s also REALLY fun!

My toddler built rainbow after rainbow and enjoyed simply playing with the arches.

She made patterns, various unusual shapes, made up stories and a few, rather funny messy pictures.

It’s an activity you could also bag up and take out n’ about.

And, here’s the best bit –  takes just minutes to set up!

Multiple Sheets of Felt – Rainbow Colours
Scissors
Cardboard (optional)

Arty Crafty Kids | Play | Toddler Rainbow Activity | Toddlers will have fun creating pictures and building their own simple rainbows. A great little colour identification and sequencing activity for toddlers.

Simply cut out a number of rainbow arches of different sizes and colours.

You may notice that we only used four colours.

On the one hand, it keeps the activity really simple, but in this instance we didn’t have all the colours to hand!

Sometimes it’s all about working with the materials you have available at the time.

Hand the felt materials over to your toddler, along with one full sheet of A4 blue felt – this will form the background.

To create a solid board, try sticking the felt sheet onto cardboard.

The rest is all down to your toddler as they play with their rainbows.

Without any intervention at all, my toddler would mutter to herself the colours and naturally sequence the arches in relation to size.

As the activity progressed, she created her own little stories and soon the arches and clouds adopted funny voices.

As a mummy, I love watching my child’s creativity naturally evolve and this Toddler Rainbow Activity proves that activities do not need to be complicated.

More often than not, it’s best to keep it simple!

Easy Paper Plate Rainbow Craft

Arty Crafty Kids | Craft | Easy Paper Plate Rainbow Craft | A simple paper plate rainbow craft for kids. A super cute St Patrick's Day Craft or Spring Craft.

As an adult, I still get excited when a rainbow appears in the sky and my children, literally, shriek with delight. We love rainbows and if you haven’t already guessed, they’re a huge source of inspiration here at Arty Crafty Kids.

Today I have the pleasure of showing you an incredibly easy paper plate rainbow craft that’s perfect for your toddler or preschooler.

Isn’t it sweet?

And while it’s a simple craft, it also presents a fantastic opportunity to introduce colour mixing to young children (Red/Yellow = Orange, Yellow/Blue = Green. Blue/Red = Purple).

There’s also an element of fine motor work, as the children have carefully glide their paintbrushes across the paper plate to create individual arches of a reasonbly equal size  – although in reality, lets not worry about the details as kids  are likely to have their own wonderful ideas of how their rainbows will look ( i’m sure there will even be a brown one here or there).

Sound good?

Rainbow Scrape Painting

Arty Crafty Kids | Book-Club | Rainbow Scrape Painting | Based on the gorgeous "My Color Rainbow" toddlers and preschoolers can create their own rainbows using the scrape painting technique.

Today’s Rainbow Scrape Painting is inspired by the gorgeous book “My Color is Rainbow” written by Agnes Hsu – a mum, entrepreneur, author, creative and the mastermind behind the awesome, Hello Wonderful blog.

My Color is Rainbow

Have you ever felt that you don’t quite belong?

And that you would like something more from life, without knowing what that ‘more’ is?

This is the story of White Arch, who embarks on a journey of self discovery to find its place in a world full of colour.

White Arch meets each colour of the rainbow who all represent a different characteristic – Loving, Friendly, Happy, Helpful, Peaceful and Majestic.

The colours are kind, welcoming and inclusive.

But, why limit yourself to just being loving or happy or friendly, when you can be all of them and more?

White Arch discovers that there are no limits and there are no boundaries; becoming a tidy metaphor for the challenges that children (and adults) may face today in juxtaposed world full of both limitations and choice.

If you like the sound of ‘Mr Color is Rainbow’ you can purchase your copy from Amazon here.

At other times, white remains as a stand alone colour – It can be the rainbow and itself 🙂
